Event Report: SCCJ 2022 Spring Kick-Off Reception
SCCJ organized its first physical event to kick-off 2022 at the embassy of Sweden on April 28, 2022.
Over 150 guests attended, enjoying meeting people face to face as well as various kinds of Swedish food and craft beer!

Happy 30th Birthday SCCJ!
On this day, March 18, 1992 SCCJ was registered with the Japanese ministry METI.
During the early years SCCJ had its office located inside different member companies before it finally found its current location inside the Embassy of Sweden compound.
What started with just 8 founding member companies is now approaching 100 corporate members and 40 individual members.
On behalf of the SCCJ Secretariat we want to thank all current and past Directors, Auditors, Committee members and all other volunteers for your kind support throughout the years.
The special 30th anniversary logotype is designed by Shun Kageyama, winner of the SCCJ anniversary logotype competition.
The Swedish-Japanese business community is strong and we look forward to another 30 years of successful business in Japan and Sweden.

SCCJは今年創立30周年を迎えます！
30年前のこの日、1992年3月18日にSCCJは外国商工会議所として当時の通商産業省（現：経済産業省）に登録されました。
設立当初は会員企業のオフィス内に事務所を構えていましたが、その後現在のスウェーデン大使館内に移転しました。
30年前は会員企業8社でスタートしたSCCJも、現在では法人会員約100社、個人会員約40名を数えるまでになりました。
SCCJ事務局を代表し、現・旧理事、監査役、委員会メンバー、その他ボランティアの皆様には、長年にわたり多大なるご支援を賜り、心より感謝申し上げます。
30周年を記念した特別なロゴは、SCCJのロゴデザインコンペティションで優勝した影山俊氏のデザインです。

SCCJ 30th Anniversary Logo Design Competition

BACKGROUND
Next year marks the 30th anniversary year since The Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (SCCJ) was founded in 1992. To celebrate this special year, we would like to create an anniversary logotype that will be used throughout the year of 2022.
INVITING YOU TO BECOME A STAR
We are inviting any designer, experienced or non-experienced to take on in this challenge to create an anniversary logotype that will be widely spread in the Swedish-Japanese business community throughout 2022. This is a great opportunity for you to get new connections and recognition for your talent.
AWARD
Together with SCCJ members the top contenders are awarded with products and services of a value of over 450 000 JPY. A cash reward of 50 000 JPY will also be handed out to the winning contender. The prizes are kindly provided by EF Education First, Electrolux, IKEA, String Furniture and Volvo Car Japan. Examples below.
JURY
An appointed jury consisting of Directors and Members of SCCJ will pick the winning proposal. The choice of the jury is final and cannot be changed.

After the end of the 30th Anniversary period, all rights of the design belong to SCCJ.

SCCJ Covid-19 Vaccination Program Report
On June 1 the Japanese government announced that companies, universities and Chambers of Commerce could start vaccination programs for employees and students by June 21, 2021 using the Moderna vaccine.
SCCJ offered all corporate members to join this program with the first shot taking place in Osaka on June 30. A total of 800 members from some 40 companies participated in the vaccination program with the first and second shot given on several dates between June 30 and and August 12. The vaccination centers were operated by TKP in collaboration with Sakurajyuji Group in Osaka, Ichigaya (Tokyo) and Ikebukuro (Tokyo).
SCCJ Secretariat would like to thank all member companies for helping out to coordinate this effort. We are also very pleased with the high participation rate - no vaccine had to be wasted thanks to participants showing up as promised.
6月1日、日本政府は企業や大学、商工会議所で従業員や学生を対象とした職域単位のワクチン接種を6月21日から始める方針を明らかにしました。この職域接種では武田／モデルナ社製のワクチンが使用されました。
SCCJでは限られた数ではございましたが接種枠を確保することができたため企業会員の皆様へ職域接種プログラムを提供いたしました。6月30日の大阪会場を皮切りに、8月12日に皆様の2回接種が完了するまで合計約40社、800名の皆様にご参加いただきました。接種会場はTKPと桜十字グループが共同で運営し、大阪、市ヶ谷、池袋の3会場で接種が行われました。
この職域接種プログラムを運営するにあたり、スケジュール調整を始め多くの企業会員の皆様のご協力を賜りました。
プログラムにお申込みいただいた皆様のご協力の結果、すべての日程で97％以上の高い参加率を維持できました。ワクチンを無駄にすることなく、スムーズに接種を終えられたことを併せてご報告いたします。皆様のサポートに厚く御礼申し上げます。

On March 31st, 2021 more than 40 CEOs from SCCJ Corporate Member companies gathered in person and online to listen and discuss with Mr. Jacob Wallenberg, Chairman of Investor & Mr. Fredrik Persson, Chairman of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (Svenskt Näringsliv).
Meet Oskar, Our New Intern
Welcome to SCCJ, please tell us a bit about yourself.
Hej! In true Japanese fashion, allow me start off with a self-introduction. My name is Oskar Finnström, and as the name suggests, I am Swedish. I was born, raised and still live in a town called Uppsala, located a short train ride north of Stockholm. Uppsala is home to Sweden’s oldest University from where I graduated in 2020, having majored in business with a focus on management and control. During my studies at Uppsala University, I worked part time at the local IKEA as a kitchen designer/salesman. At the same time and after graduating, I worked part time for a management consultant company. Before that though, I spent a good chunk of my early twenties studying Japanese at Stockholm University and later for one year at Waseda University in Tokyo, eventually passing the N1 level of the JLPT.
How did you get interested in Japan?
I began studying Japanese simply out of an interest for the language. There was something very enticing about how utterly foreign the language seemed, and it got me hooked. But while the language itself was what got me interested in Japan, what kept me studying for so many years was my first experience living in Japan. A lot of the things I came to love about the country seemed almost too good to be true. Who can resist trains that arrive every few minutes, and on time? In all seriousness, many seemingly small things, like the fact that you do not have to worry about your things being stolen if you happen to forget them somewhere, or that there always seems to be someone eager to help if you get lost, made me appreciate the people and culture more and more.
What is your favorite place in Japan?
Japan is beautiful. Even in Tokyo, I love spending time in the parks and gardens. Outside the city, the captivating scenery of the mountains, forests, and coastline makes for simply grand sightseeing. Some of my favorite places so far are Hakone and Niijima. I hope to visit many more places in Japan. Unfortunately, that will have to wait a bit.
It is very difficult to travel with the current situation, what is the plan moving forward?
As mentioned above, I am still in Sweden. Due to the unfortunate effects of Covid-19, I am unable to make the trip to Japan as the borders are still closed. In fact, I was supposed to join the SCCJ as an intern as early as spring last year, but the travel ban put a stop to that. Going forward I will be working remotely for 6 months, and if the Japanese borders open during that time, I will continue the remainder of the one-year internship period on site, in Tokyo. With vaccinations already under way, hopefully I will be able to go soon enough.
What do you hope to achieve during your internship with the SCCJ?
For the coming one-year period I look forward to developing my own capabilities, expanding my knowledge, and network, while doing my utmost to contribute to the mission of the SCCJ. My ambition is to make life as easy as possible for my coworkers and our members, while learning more about Sweden-related business in Japan. I hope to be able to stay in the country after this internship ends, making this year the start of my professional career in Japan.

Event Report: SCCJ Bowling Competition 2020
On February 20th, SCCJ organized the annual team building competition at Sasazuka Bowl.
This year was a bit special due to the outbreak of COVID-19, however, 30 guests from 7 companies attended the event with 7 teams.
Ericsson won the competition this time, and Christian Thoren was the best player!

WIN Event Report: Top 10 Resiliency Tips by Corinne Johnson, Shimizu Corp
SCCJ WIN(Women's Impact Network) hosted the first event in 2020 on January 30.
With around 40 participants, Corinne shared her own experience and career in Japan.
She also discussed the situation where she was the only woman in her team or in the room to point out how a woman can be a strength for making positive change within the organization, as long as you have the right support systems in place.
