On April 7th, the kick-off meeting for the 2023 Mentorship Program was held in a hybrid format at the Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo and online.

About the Mentorship Program
SCCJ's members-only mentorship program is designed to connect talented female mentees, and experienced middle- and senior level employees from other companies as mentors. The program provides mentees with professional and personal growth, new business perspectives, and networking opportunities through an eight-month mentorship that transcends company boundaries.

 

Kick-off Meeting
A total of 32 individuals from 10 companies participated in this year's program.
At the kick-off meeting, SCCJ provided information and recommendations on how to better facilitate the mentorship. This was followed by the announcement of  mentor-mentee pairs, with whom they will build a trusting relationship over the next eight months.
Afterwards, Swedish Fika was provided along with an opportunity for socializing and networking.

4月7日、2023年度メンターシッププログラムのキックオフミーティングがスウェーデン大使館、オンラインのハイブリッド形式で開催されました。

 

メンターシッププログラムについて
SCCJの会員限定メンターシッププログラムでは、才能溢れる女性社員のメンティーと他社の経験豊かな社員のメンターをペアとします。企業の垣根を超えた8か月間のメンターシップを通し、メンティーの専門性や能力の成長、新たなビジネスの視点、ネットワークの機会が得られるプログラムです。

 

キックオフミーティング
本年度のプログラムには合計10企業から32名の方のご参加がありました。
キックオフミーティングでは、SCCJのプレゼンテーションを通してより良いメンターシップへの理解を深めた後、今後8か月間信頼関係を築いていくメンター・メンティーの組み合わせが発表されました。
その後、会議所でイベントに参加されている方にはコーヒーとシナモンロールのFikaが提供され、交流とネットワーキングの機会が設けられました。

ご自身が務める会社とは別の会社の人から、新たな見方・考え方を得られます。各ペアは、異なる会社に勤めているメンター及びメンティーによって構成されています。SCCJの担当チームが、皆様のプロフィールをもとに最適なペア作りを行います。

皆様の会社に勤める才覚あふれた女性の皆さんを対象に、メンターによるコーチングと今後のキャリア形成のアドバイスを行います。メンターとして本プログラムに参加する場合、ただアドバイスをするだけではありません。メンティーと対話を重ねることで彼らから新たな発見が得られ、ご自身の成長にもつながります。

SCCJ メンタリングプログラム委員会

The 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan took place on January 27th. The event was held in honor of the successful 30 years of the chamber and its member companies. The celebration began with a delicious four-course dinner at the Hakuho-kan, with a menu created by the Ambassador Chef, Johan Ahlstedt. The speeches by the Swedish ambassador Pereric Högberg, Vice Minister Satomi of METI, and Chair of the Chamber Martin Persson, were highlights of the evening. They recognized the chamber's contributions and achievements over the years and expressed their hopes for its future success.

The celebration continued with an after-party at Happo-en, featuring a well recived performance by ABBAN, an ABBA tribute cover band. The celebration was a testament to the strong bond and cooperation between the Chamber and its member companies. It was an evening of celebration, recognition, and appreciation of the achievements of the past 30 years and a look forward to continued success in the future.

SCCJ創立30周年記念パーティー 東京
1月27日、在日スウェーデン商工会議所の創立30周年記念パーティーが開催されました。このイベントは、当会議所と会員企業の30年間の成功を記念して開催されたものです。祝賀会は、白鳳館での大使シェフ、Johan Ahlstedt 氏による4品の豪華なコースディナーで始まりました。Pereric Högberg 駐日スウェーデン大使、経済産業大臣政務官　里見氏、Martin Persson 会議所会頭によるスピーチは、この夜のハイライトとなりました。祝賀会は八芳園での二次会へと続き、ABBAトリビュート・カバーバンドABBANによる演奏が好評を博しました。この祝賀会は、商工会議所と会員企業との強い絆と協力関係を証明するものでした。過去30年間の功績を称え、感謝し、今後のさらなる成功を期待する夜となりました。

Holiday season is soon here and on December 8^th for the 27^th time the Nordic chambers joined together and held the Nordic Christmas Gala again after three years of absent.  At the beautiful venue of Hotel Gajoen Tokyo the festive started with glögg mingle before the seated dinner. During the gala dinner performances were made by the Embassy Choir and the Swedish School’s Lucia, as well as lottery  with prices from our sponsors handed out by Santa Clause. The gala then ended with music, dance and mingle by the bar.

 

12月8日、3年ぶりに北欧の商工会議所が集まり、27回目となるNordic Christmas Galaを開催しました。 ホテル雅叙園東京の美しい会場で、着席ディナーの前にグロッグミングルで祝祭が始まりました。

ガラディナーでは、Tokyo Embassy Choir(TEC)とスウェーデン学校の生徒によるルシア祭のパフォーマンス、そしてサンタクロースによるロッタリーが行われました。

その後音楽とダンス、バーでの交流でガラは幕を閉じました。

On November 18^th SCCJ together with DCCJ organized a panel discussion and workshop on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in management. With special focus on Nordic companies in Japan.

The event started with a panel discussion representing four Nordic companies; IKEA, Ericsson, MAERSK and Novo Nordisk. Where we had Yuriko Iwasaki from IKEA, Aya Asama from Ericsson, Siweon Carrie Park from MAERK and Satoru Harada from Novo Nordisk talking from their company’s point of view as well as their own experiences.

After a truly interesting presentation and discussion Tove Kinooka, founder of Global Perspectives, facilitated the workshop to continue on the topic discussion in smaller groups.

11月18日、SCCJはDCCJ(デンマーク商工会議所)と共同で、在日北欧企業に焦点を当てた経営における多様性、平等性、包括性についてのパネルディスカッションとワークショップを開催しました。

まず、IKEA、Ericsson、MAERSK、Novo Nordiskの北欧企業4社の代表者によるパネルディスカッションが行われました。IKEAのIwasaki Yuriko氏、EricssonのAsama Aya氏、MAERSKのSiweon Carrie Park氏、Novo NordiskのHarada Satoru氏が、それぞれの立場から、またご自身の経験談を交えてお話しくださいました。

SCCJ organized a big 30th years anniversary celebration in Kobe, Kansai on the 11 th of November with a standing reception at the beautiful venue Sorakuen. Over 100 guests joined in this celebration, and we were also honored with the presence of our HE Ambassador of Sweden Pereric Högberg as well as the Mayor of Kobe city Mr. Kizo Hisamoto.

The evening started with a presentation from Kobe Steel as well as inspiring speeches from Mr. Linus Jonsson, Representative Director, EF Education First and Dr. Kenji Nakajima, Chairman, Japan-Sweden Society in Kansai. SCCJ Chairman, Mr. Martin Persson talked about SCCJs role as a facilitator for expanding networks, new encounters, and business opportunities.

During the reception the guests could enjoy various Swedish food specialties as well as craft beer from Sweden and wine from Kobe.

The success of this evening was a testament that SCCJs network of members are present in the Kansai region and we aim to continue promoting activities outside Tokyo in the coming years.

11月11日、SCCJは神戸で30周年記念式典を開催し、相楽園でレセプションを行いました。当日はPereric Högberg駐日スウェーデン大使、久元喜造神戸市長のご臨席を賜り、100名を超えるゲストの方々にご参加いただきました。

式典は神戸製鋼所からのプレゼンテーションに始まり、EF Education First代表取締役のLinus Jonsson氏、関西日本スウェーデン協会会長の中島敬治氏から感動的なスピーチを頂戴しました。

 

SCCJ会長のMartin Persson氏はネットワークや出会いの場の提供、ビジネスチャンスを広げるためのファシリテーターとしてSCCJが果たしてきた役割について述べました。

レセプションではスウェーデン料理、スウェーデンのクラフトビール、神戸のワインをお楽しみいただきました。

このレセプションの成功は、SCCJのネットワークが関西に存在することを証明するものであり、今後も東京以外での活動を推進することを目指して参ります。

Welcome to SCCJ, please tell us a bit about yourself.

Hej! My name is Erica Alenvret, bachelor’s program student in Business Administration at the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. I was born and raised on the Swedish west coast just outside the second largest city, Gothenburg. Through university partnership program I was able to do an exchange semester at Waseda University School of Commerce during the autumn of 2021. However, the corona situation at that time made it impossible for me to come to Japan in person. I had to take all my classes in real-time from Sweden the whole semester. It wasn’t the exchange I had dreamed of but the amazing support from the professors and my classmates helped me make a lot of lovely memories.

I’ve always been interested in trying new things and explore the unknown which has led me to join different projects and part-time jobs where I had the opportunity to meet new and inspiring people. For example, I have worked as a youth leader for an organization that give kids the opportunity to live on a farm and learn Swedish agriculture. I also enjoy dancing and have both taught dance and been the president of my school’s dance team Mistlåhren. I have also worked part-time as a shipping administrator for a multinational company. I’m now exited for this next chapter with new adventures!

How did you get interested in Japan?

I’ve always been interested in history and culture, especially Japan’s. When I got the opportunity of an exchange year in high school the choice was pretty easy, Japan of course! So, in spring during my first year of high school I boarded the plane to Japan for the first time in my life and spent an amazing year at Fujieda Meisei High School in Shizuoka. I was able to join two club activities, cheerleading and the tea ceremony club, which made it possible to truly dive into the Japanese culture and high school life style. Since then, I was stuck. Taking language classes in high school, traveling almost every year to visit family and friends as well as explore more of Japan’s wonderful places. My interest in Japan also gave me the chance to work part-time as a tour guide in 2018 for group trips from Sweden to Japan.

What is your favorite place in Japan?

 

That’s a hard question. I haven’t visited all places yet, but Shizuoka will always be close to my heart. Since I enjoy the winter season, the ski town Niseko in Hokkaido has become a favorite as well. I would generally say that I’m an country side girl so it’s exiting to be able to experience the city life style here in Tokyo and hopefully find new places to add to my favorites!

 

What do you hope to achieve during your internship with the SCCJ?

I hope to learn more about the business culture in Japan. My ambition is to assist in creating new meetings and learning opportunities for the SCCJ members. My future dream is to work in Japan, and I see this internship as an opportunity to expand my network and knowledge of different business fields in Japan and in relation to Sweden.

I’m very grateful for this opportunity given to me and that would not have been possible without the scholarship granted by Göteborgs Handelshögskolefonds Stipendiestiftelse in co-operation with the Business Program at the University of Gothenburg.

Message of condolence
We have a very sad message to past and present members of SCCJ.
 

Ms. Taiko Nakazato passed away suddenly on May 31 in Tokyo.

Taiko-san was General Manager of SCCJ from the late 1990s and ran the secretariat for well over a decade. 

She has contributed a lot to the success of SCCJ through the years and later spent four years active in Japan Sweden Society, continuing her important contributions to the business and social relations between Sweden and Japan.

We remember the great energy she had to make so many of our events successful, making sure our members felt at home and well taken care of. She did this with a smile and supporting several of our Chairmen in a great way.

 

She was a driving force behind many of our large Scandinavian Christmas Events. We will forever be thankful for all her years working with and supporting the important relations between Sweden and Japan.

 

Taiko-san, we all miss you a lot and we can only hope you will finally rest with peace in mind.

SCCJの元専務理事、中里 泰子氏が5月31日に逝去されました。

 

中里氏は1990年代後半から10年以上、SCCJの専務理事を務めました。

彼女は長年にわたりSCCJの成功に大きく貢献し、その後4年間、日本スウェーデン協会で活躍し、スウェーデンと日本のビジネスと社会的関係に重大な貢献を続けました。

 

私たちは、彼女が多くのイベントを成功させ、会員がくつろげるように配慮し、素晴らしいエネルギーを持っていたことを思い出します。
彼女は笑顔で様々なプロジェクトを実行し、歴代の会長たちを見事にサポートしました。

 

スカンジナビアン・クリスマスイベントの原動力となったのも彼女です。
スウェーデンと日本の重要な関係を支え、共に働いてきた彼女の年月に、私たちは永遠に感謝することでしょう。

 

中里氏のご冥福をお祈り申し上げます。

Nordic Chambers of Commerce in Japan (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) co-organized this fun gathering event to enjoy Nordic craft beer at CRAFTROCK Brewpub & Live in Nihonbashi.

 

There were almost 80 participants and it was a wonderful event to see you all! Hope to see you soon again at another events.
